McDonald’s announced Thursday that chicken strips will return to its menu after being removed five years ago.

Beginning on May 5, McCrispy Strips, all-white chicken tenders coated in golden-brown breading, will be back on menus nationwide. A new savory, sweet, and tangy sauce, Creamy Chili Dip, will also be available.

The return of McCrispy Strips marks the first time since 2021 McDonald’s has debuted a permanent menu item in the U.S.

“The demand for chicken strips has been remarkable to see across the industry, so we knew we had to deliver something so craveable that it was worth the wait. We took our time, listened to our fans and created a product we knew they would crave. And the best part is we’re just getting started.” Alyssa Buetikofer, chief marketing and customer experience officer at McDonald’s, said in a news release.

Following the success of other chicken-centric chains, like Wingstop, Raising Cane’s and Chick-fil-A, other restaurants, like Taco Bell, have also added chicken dishes to its menus.

The return of McCrispy Strips means fans are one step closer to the return of McDonald’s popular Snack Wraps, since McDonald’s previously used the same chicken strips as the filling.

Snack Wraps were removed from menus in 2016.

The chain teased the return of Snack Wraps earlier this month, saying the handheld item would return on “0x.14.2025. ” The date the item would return was revealed, but not the month.

Business Insider reported that the item was discontinued because many employees complained that it was too complicated to make and didn’t perform as well as McDonald’s had hoped.

Since its removal from menus, fans have petitioned for its return.
