Once upon a time, Lively rivaled Madonna, Rihanna, and Sarah Jessica Parker for most-anticipated Met Gala attendee, going 10 times in 14 years. The Gossip Girl star made a habit of somehow always matching the carpet (even though she presumably didn’t know the decor beforehand), and her copper-to-green Statue of Liberty outfit transformation in 2022 was simply stunning. But when a new Supreme rises, the old one fades away. Not saying it’s all about Zendaya now, but…this will be Lively’s third missed Gala in a row (not her longest no-show streak, but the 2018 to 2022 gap was, we imagine, partly due to COVID).
This is all to say, the answer to the question “Will Blake Lively attend the Met Gala in 2025?” is…nope. In 2023 she had recently given birth and was home with a breast pump. In 2024 she was busy. This year? Well, sources told TMZ back in March that Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, decided not to attend the event months prior, and it totally has nothing to do with the whole Justin Baldoni fracas.
The pair haven’t exactly been in hiding since the multiple lawsuits surrounding her film It Ends With Us were filed, attending the star-studded SNL 50 bash arm-in-arm. Maybe Lively wanted to end her Met Gala career with a bang? She was, after all, a co-chair in 2022, and there are plenty of celebrities who seem to have graduated from the event, her friend Taylor Swift being a prime example. By the time the Met Gala rolls around on May 5, Lively’s new movie, Another Simple Favor, will have just dropped on Amazon Prime, so it’s also possible she wants a break after an international press tour.
