Police in Orange County are investigating multiple reports of cats being taken and possibly killed in at least one neighborhood.
“The Santa Ana Police Department is aware of a viral animal cruelty case involving cats in the area of Sullivan Street and McFadden Avenue,” the Department posted on X Tuesday morning.
Area residents say one man is responsible for taking the cats and believe he is killing some of them.
“There have been multiple incidents of cats being killed in our community, and residents are deeply concerned,” said a viewer who sent KTLA images of the man taken from the Nextdoor app.
“We saw our cameras and this guy just grabbed a neighborhood cat seemed like he tied his legs up and took him around 5pm. He went walking on Shelton street towards McFadden. The cat is Black with light brown spots,” a caption on one post with an image of the man read.
A person in another post said the man inject a cat that later died. “Hello! I’m near El Savador park and my neighbor’s cat was killed by a man that injected it with some sort of substance.”
The post stated that the man was wearing a reflective vest and fed the cat in order to lure it to him.
The person appears to match the description of a suspect sought in a cat theft that took place in Westminster last month, although it is unclear if the incidents are related.
Surveillance video taken on March 21 showed the moment a man snagged Clubber, a 10-month-old Bengal Lynx cat.
Clubber was eventually returned to his home, but the man was never caught.
Santa Ana police encouraged anyone with information about the incidents to contact Investigative Specialist S. Guzman at 714-245-8416 or [email protected].
