PRICEVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Priceville Police Department said there is a new scam going around, notifying people by email, text and mail.
According to the department, scammers are sending fake toll notices to people to trick them into paying tolls that they don’t actually owe. “Stay alert and protect yourself,” PPD said.
PPD also provided information on how to spot a scam, how to stay safe and how to stay informed
How to spot a scam
- Messages demanding immediate payment for unpaid tolls.
- Links to unfamiliar websites or requests for payment via gift cards.
- Threatening language like “Pay now to avoid legal action.”
How to stay safe from scams
- Verify claims directly with your toll agency (e.g., EZ-Pass, SunPass).
