John Cena Makes History With 17th World Title at WrestleMania 41

John Cena faced off against Cody Rhodes on Sunday Night for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Defeating Rhodes, Cena makes history with the 17th world title at WrestleMania 41.

A thrilling main event, the two fought at the “Showcase of the Immortals.” To seal the deal, 30 minute into the fight, Cena, with the help of Travis Scott, pinned Rhodes, for the win. Cena breaks the record for most world titles. Prior to this, he tied with Ric Flair for most world titles at 16. Cena first went after Rhodes at the end of the Elimination Chamber back in March when he teamed up with longtime rival Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Cena also said that since his move is “so unprecedented,” he knows fans will not believe he is really leaving, “They think I’m going to come back because everyone always comes crawling back. There’s no such thing as a wrestling retirement, there’s always one more match. The reason there isn’t a wrestling retirement is because every other wrestler is a scared, insecure loser.” He also turned to the crowd and yelled, “You people do not write history. Winners do.”

Cena is slated to retire after this year. After their final face-to-face Smackdown on Friday, Cena yelled to Rhodes, “Sunday is the last time I will ever compete in a WrestleMania ring. No one has ever had the courage to end their career the way I have and there is nothing you can possibly do to prepare to face a man who knows he’s going to die.”
