Singer, model and actor YOSHI (born Yoshizumi Sasaki) was only 19 when he died following a 2022 motorcycle accident. At the time, he was seen as a rising star in both fashion and music: he began modeling at 13 after catching Virgil Abloh‘s attention for the outfit he wore to Off-White™‘s Minami-Aoyama store opening, eventually modeling for both Off-White™ and Helmut Lang, and, just three years before his death, he debuted as an artist for Virgin Music, a Universal Music-owned label based in Japan.

Now, in celebration of his short yet impactful life, YOSHI is being highlighted in a new documentary titled Rock Star of Reiwa.

Set to release on May 15, Rock Star of Reiwa features never-before-seen video footage of YOSHI and interviews with members of his inner circle like Tatsushi Omori, JP THE WAVY and Kyoko Tanaka. A press release announcing the film’s debut states that it’s “filled with the message that YOSHI truly wanted to convey a side of him that’s not known” and that “the words of those who were close to YOSHI [provide] a deep sense of how [he] lived every day, and how [he] cherished his life.”

To accompany the documentary’s release, a Rock Star of Reiwa exhibition will be held at the Laforet Museum in Harajuku. The exhibition will feature some of YOSHI’s paintings as well as some of his most cherished items and photographs of YOSHI taken by Jurgen Teller. Rock Star of Reiwa will run from April 26 to May 11, and will be open from 11 AM to 8PM, save for the last day when it’ll close at 6 PM
