A pair of deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office were arrested in late March after a “domestic incident” at a restaurant that occurred while they were off-duty, Ventura County Sheriff Jim Fryhoff announced.
The media release issued by Sheriff Fryhoff Wednesday states that early in the morning of Mar. 30, two off-duty deputies – Anthony Malagon and Dylan Davis – were involved in what officials described as “an apparent domestic incident” at El Rey Cantina, located on Ventura Boulevard in Camarillo.
“An apparent domestic incident occurred where a security guard intervened and subsequently sustained injury,” VCSO’s media release reads. “[The guard] was treated at a local hospital.”
The extent of the injuries sustained by the security guard was not disclosed.
After the incident, both deputies were arrested on various charges and booked. They both posted bail and were placed on administrative leave shortly after, authorities said.
Davis, 33, was charged with misdemeanor battery, battery causing serious injury, using force likely to cause significant injury, inflicting corporal injury on a spouse and making criminal threats. According to inmate search records, his next court date is May 28.
Malagon, 27, was charged with battery causing serious injury and using force likely to cause significant injury. Inmate search records indicate his next court date is also May 28.
Handling the investigation is the Sheriff’s Department’s Major Crimes Bureau, and Sheriff Fryhoff says the probe will uncover “all relevant facts” related to the incident.
“I want to assure the public and our community that the sheriff’s office takes this matter very seriously,” Sheriff Fryhoff said. “We hold our deputies to the highest standards of conduct; any violation of those standards will be addressed properly and without hesitation, as that is what both our community and our agency expect and deserve.”
The VCSO Internal Affairs Bureau will also conduct a separate parallel investigation into the matter to determine if any departmental or procedural violations occurred.
