SOMERVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Somerville Police Department says two people were arrested Tuesday after a traffic stop led to officers finding a “substantial” amount of narcotics, a gun and other evidence.
The department said Christopher Stanley Walls, 42, of Somerville and Sonja Nicole Long, 44, of Somerville, were arrested and charged with various drug charges on April 15.
SPD said that at around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, officers conducted a traffic stop on North Drive after seeing a vehicle fail to use a turn signal.
Authorities said that Walls, who was driving the vehicle, had an active arrest warrant through the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, and Long previously trespassed at the location.
SPD said the following items were found during a search of the vehicle:
- 3.88 ounces of crystallized methamphetamine
- 2.5 grams of methamphetamine mixed with fentanyl
- .223 caliber Bushmaster rifle with a loaded magazine
- Multiple digital scales that authorities believed were used for narcotics distribution
- Counterfeit U.S. currency labeled “For Motion Picture Use Only”
- Several debit cards not belonging to either occupant
- A concealed weapon (brass knuckles)
The department said Walls and Long were taken to the Morgan County Jail without incident.
Authorities said Walls has been charged with:
- Trafficking Methamphetamine
- Trafficking Fentanyl
- Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Two Counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Failure to Signal
According to SPD, Long has been charged with:
- Trafficking Methamphetamine
- Trafficking Fentanyl
- Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Forged Instrument
- Illegal Possession or Fraudulent Use of a Credit/Debit Card
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Possession of a Concealed Weapon (Brass Knuckles)
- Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree
- Probation Violation
“This arrest represents a significant disruption to the trafficking and distribution of dangerous drugs within the Town of Somerville and surrounding areas,” The department said. “The Somerville Police Department remains dedicated to proactive enforcement efforts and the safety of its residents.”
Walls and Long are both still being held in the Morgan County Jail, according to jail records.
