After celebrating its automotive icons from the ’90s with the opening of its Youngtimer exhibition in Germany last week, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a special-edition G-Class paying homage to its trailblazing efforts in the ’80s. Dubbed the Mercedes-Benz G-Class Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s, the new vehicle nods to the classic W460-series Geländewagen, which laid the foundation for the G-Class’s future success.

The latest G-Class takes colors and design elements from the reference model. Customers can choose between MANUFAKTUR agave green solid and MANUFAKTUR Colorado beige solid tones, both of which were among the first paint options available for the G-Class. Additionally, the car’s turn signal indicators are finished in the signature orange hue from the era, and to cap off the vintage highlights, the vehicle’s bumpers, flared wheel arches, and exterior mirrors are done in night black magno, just like the first G-Class.

Open the car’s doors, and a logo projector reading “G-STRONGER THAN TIME” welcomes drivers and passengers. Inside, the center panel of the black leather seats is draped with an ’80s-inspired dove grey fabric, while the passenger grab handle hosts the words “STRONGER THAN THE 1980s.” The “Schöckl Proved” badge, meanwhile, is crafted with a signature ’80s look on the B-pillar, and each vehicle is signed with a “1 of 460” mark (a nod to the original W460-series) on the console.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s is now available for order at a starting price of £152,815 GBP. Take a look at the design in the gallery above.
