Lebanon has banned Disney’s Snow White remake from playing in cinemas because Israeli actress Gal Gadot, one of the film’s stars, is on the country’s boycott list.

Ahmad Hajjar, Lebanon’s Interior Minister, recommended the ban, according to local newspaper An-Nahar.

Gadot stars as the Evil Queen in Snow White. The actress was born in Israel and prior to becoming a model and actress, served in the Israel Defense Forces, as her native country mandates it. Gadot has been a prominent supporter of Israel since October 7 and the country’s subsequent military campaign in Gaza. During an impassioned speech at the Anti-Defamation League’s summit in 2024, she said: “Never did I imagine that on the streets of the United States, and different cities around the world, we would see people not condemning Hamas, but celebrating, justifying and cheering on a massacre of Jews.”

Lebanon previously banned other Gadot titles like Death On The Nile and Wonder Woman from screening in the country due to the actresses ties to Israel.

Watch on Deadline

Snow White opened in U.S. cinemas on March 21 and has been both a critical and box office bomb. Based on the famed Brothers Grimm tale, the story follows a princess who is rescued by seven dwarf miners who make Snow White part of their household after she’s exiled into a dangerous forest by her wicked stepmother.

Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man) directs from a script by Greta Gerwig (Barbie) and Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl on the Train), with Marc Platt producing. Also starring is Rachel Zegler, and Tony winner Andrew Burnap portrays Jonathan, a new male lead character. Original songs for the pic were penned by the EGOT-winning La La Land duo of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, Dear Evan Hansen).
