EXCLUSIVE: Apple has set BAFTA and Emmy winner Dearbhla Walsh (Bad Sisters, Fargo), Kate Herron (The Last of Us, Loki) and Alice Seabright (Sex Education, Chloe) to direct Margo’s Got Money Troubles, its upcoming drama series from David E. Kelley and A24, starring Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer and Nicole Kidman.

Walsh will direct four of the eight episodes including the pilot and serve as an executive producer. Herron and Seabright will direct two episodes each.

In Margo’s Got Money Troubles, based on Rufi Thorpe’s novel, Fanning stars as Margo Millet, the child of a Hooters waitress, Shyanne (Pfeiffer), and an ex-pro wrestler, Jinx (Nick Offerman), who becomes pregnant after a brief affair with an English professor, Mark (Michael Angarano), at the local junior college she attends. Now, at 20, Margo is alone with an infant, unemployed, and on the verge of eviction. When her estranged father Jinx shows up on her doorstep and asks to move in with her, she agrees in exchange for help with childcare. Margo starts an OnlyFans as an experiment and soon finds herself adapting some of Jinx’s advice from the world of wrestling.

Cast also includes Thaddea Graham, Marcia Gay Harden, Greg Kinnear. Lindsey Normington, Rico Nasty and Michael Workèyè.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles is produced for Apple TV+ by A24. Kelley serves as writer and showrunner on the eight-episode series. He and Matthew Tinker executive produce for David E. Kelley Productions alongside Elle Fanning, Dakota Fanning and Brittany Kahan Ward for Lewellen Pictures; and Kidman and Per Saari of Blossom Films. Pfeiffer, author Thorpe and Eva Anderson also executive produce.

Walsh recently returned as lead director and executive producer for the second season of Apple TV+’s Bad Sisters, starring Sharon Horgan. Other recent directing credits include Japanese dramedy Sunny, the Shining Vale comedy pilot, Tales from the Loop and Marvel’s The Punisher. Walsh is repped by CAA, Casarotto Ramsay and Associates Ltd, and Sloane Offer Weber & Dern.

Herron is one of the season 2 directors for HBO’s The Last of Us and also is set to direct The Sims feature adaptation for Amazon MGM Studios from a script she is co-writing with Briony Redman. Herron previously served as executive producer and directed the first season of Disney+ series Loki. Herron is repped by Casarotto Ramsay & Associates, CAA and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Seabright directed the standalone episode six of Say Nothing for FX, a 10-part series based on Patrick Radden Keefe’s bestselling novel. She most recently helmed Joe Barton’s adaptation of Amadeus for Sky. She also created the psychological thriller TV miniseries Chloe for BBC and Amazon, and directed several epsiodes of Netflix’s Sex Education. Seabright is repped by Lark and UTA.
