Space Marine 3 is currently in the works, but Saber Interactive continues to work on Space Marine 2. The next patch, dubbed the Trygon Update, adds a new PvE mission with a monstrous new foe to face. The titular Trygon is one of the largest Tyranid bioforms, thanks to its long and chitinous tail. The Trygon is also capable of burrowing and stalking its prey over long distances.
The Trygon will serve as a major obstacle in the new mission, which tasks the Space Marines with rescuing an Adeptus Mechanicus tech-priest from his facility, which is deep within the Trygon’s territory. The exfil attempt will alert the monster, which proceeds to persistently stalk the Space Marines.
It looks like the mission takes place outside of the Hive City of Avarax, which makes for a very impressive setpiece. Hive Cities are massive structures, built to house billions of humans in extremely cramped quarters. Seeing one from afar is both awe-inspiring and slightly sickening, once you realize just how many people are packed in the architectural monstrosity.
The Trygon Update also contains a new weapon, the Inferno Pistol, which is a lightweight weapon that packs a serious punch. There are also some quality-of-life updates, like the ability to change the color of cloth, tabards, and hoods on Space Marine armor, new prestige ranks and perks, and custom PvP lobbies for groups of up to twelve in the game’s Eternal War mode.
There will be new paid cosmetics that allow players to kit their Space Marines out in the regalia of the Space Wolves and the Imperial Fists, two of the loyalist legions. The Space Wolves have some appropriately canine-esque accessories, like a snarling wolf helmet, while the Imperial Fists are decked out with their signature yellow armor and dramatic plumes.
The Trygon update is now live on all platforms, with the new operation, Inferno Pistol, and quality of life changes available for free. The Space Wolf and Imperial Fists cosmetics, however, must be unlocked through the season pass or purchased separately.
