HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — State Representatives Anthony Daniels and Laura Hall hosted a town hall Monday at Mae Jemison High School.
The meeting was focused on localizing the impacts of actions happening in Washington, D.C. Representative Daniels told News 19 he had a couple of points he wanted to strongly address: the tariffs and the federal cuts, all while encouraging people to reach out to local elected officials.
Those in attendance asked questions ranging from the possibility of significant Medicaid cuts to keeping books in schools.
Rep. Daniels said transparency and availability to his constituents is a top priority and why he hosts town halls.
“For me, it’s important that people hear from you,” Daniels said. “You know, oftentimes you see politicians when it’s election time, but being able to build that rapport with your constituents or being able to solve a problem. Because at the state level, you know, I may not have an impact on the federal level, but I have contacts; I can make phone calls to help with any situation.”
Rep. Daniels said he and other elected officials are having dinner with U.S. Senator Katie Britt on Tuesday to discuss issues in D.C. and their impacts here at home.
