Curtain bangs have quickly become one of the most popular bang hairstyles since it works for all face shapes. But if you’re wondering how to style curtain bangs, we’ve got you covered. Sure, your new bangs look great fresh out the salon, but how do you get the same results for everyday?
Turns out, all it takes is a few easy steps and products to get that signature swoop. To start, you’ll want to assess the type of curtain bangs you have. According to celebrity stylist and Nexxus ambassador Clariss Rubenstein, this will help inform your styling choices. “Curtain bangs are on the longer side but can vary in length depending on what is most flattering to the face shape in question,” she says. “They’re traditionally split down the middle and can range from under the brow bone to cheekbone length. Curtain bangs are versatile when it comes to what face shape can best wear them.”
If you’re a side part devotee, you’ll probably want to skip getting curtain bangs altogether. “Curtain bangs are a middle part bang on the longer side,” says Eduardo Ponce, Balmain Hair USA West Coast ambassador. “The cut is meant to frame the face and isn’t as harsh as front bangs.”

Prep the hair
Rubenstein recommends starting with clean hair and applying a volumizing product like Nexxus Unbreakable Care Root Lift Thickening Spray to get extra lift. Ponce also suggests adding a heat protectant, since you’ll be heat styling your bangs often.
“Always use heat protection, especially on a fringe,” says Ponce. “I love cocktailing Balmain Hair’s Thermal Protection Spray and Volume Mousse Strong. This will also give you UV protection and help against frizz and color fading.”

Use a round brush or blow dryer brush
Pick up a medium or large round brush, depending on the length of your bangs. A large round brush is recommended for chin-length curtain bangs, while a medium round brush will work on lengths around the brow and cheekbone. You can use a round brush and blow dryer, but it’s a lot easier to combine two tools in one with a blow dryer brush.

Using your round brush, wrap the hair up and away from the face. “You can also use hot tools like a curling iron or straightener, but I personally love handling bangs with a blow-dryer and round brush,” Ponce adds.
If you’re working with damp bangs, make sure to throughly dry the hair with your blow dryer or blow dryer brush. If you’re working with dry hair, hold the hot air for a few seconds, just enough to warm up the hair. Give the bangs a few seconds to cool down by keeping the round brush in place to lock in the shape. Once they’ve cooled gently remove the round brush. Rubenstein like to brush through the bangs with her fingers “for a natural feel.” Hair spray is optional, but if you need the extra hold try a flexible formula like Sexy Hair Big Spray & Play or Amika Fluxus Touchable Hairspray to keep the natural movement.
