For Milan Design Week 2025, Pennsylvania-based furniture design studio Unform Studio joined Salone del Mobile‘s SaloneSatellite exhibition to debut its first-ever lighting collection and an accompanying furniture line. In a statement, Unform Studio says A Different Kind of Future “imagines the designs of a future foretold, but never realized, by exploring an optimistic vision of Space Age aesthetics.
Comprising the un14 Orbit chair and the un15 Orbit Table, the Orbit Collection combines organic materials and rounded forms with polished chrome elements. The wooden table features prominent walnut grain with shades of tan and brown, while serene blue upholstery evokes natural elements like water and woodlands. The interplay between soft forms and retrofuturistic metal work imbues the decidedly modern designs with an organic quality. “These pieces don’t speak of a cold, automated future devoid of the human touch, but of one that prizes the warmth of the hand and the honesty of materials, equally prioritizing form as well as provenance,” the studio added.
Marking the brand’s first lighting designs, the Axis collection includes the form3 Axis Pendent Light, the form4 Axis wall light, and the form2 Axis Floor Lamp. Mirroring the polished chrome hardware found in the furniture, the monolithic lighting designs isolate the polished steel material for maximum effect. Each based on a uniform design centered on a glowing inner portal, the lighting designs create a diffused and moody atmosphere to complement the Orbit collection. The pendant lights are a highlight, coming in multiple sizes, capable of being hung in different orientations and multiples.
Founded in 2022 by designer Ryan Twardzik, Unform Studio brought its Pennsylvania-made designs to Milan Design Week for the first time last year. Later this spring, Unform Studio will make its North American debut, showing the new collections in New York at WANTED on May 18-20.
