A bride-to-be’s bachelorette trip nail set was a little “unhinged.”
Ahead of Karen Wu’s wedding to Nate Nuguid in June, the bride-to-be went on a bachelorette trip from April 4 to April 6 in Palm Springs, Calif. Her “hilarious” choice of manicure for the getaway has gone viral, with a video of her nails garnering more than 280,000 views and 35,000 likes on TikTok.
“I remembered I have free will so I decided to do the most unhinged nail set for my bachelorette trip,” Wu said in a video of her getting her nails done, adding in an onscreen text overlay, “POV: you’re an unhinged bride.”
Wu, 28, went to her nail appointment on April 1 at Blackheart Nails in Los Angeles, but her design request was no April Fools’ Day joke. She asked her nail technician, Shelby Wagner, to put “the most troll photos” of the 10 women going with her on her bachelorette trip on each fingernail.
“[Shelby] had a Luigi Mangione nail sticker on her nails, and I was so interested in how she did it,” Wu explains to PEOPLE. “She told me that they were stickers, and that one of the other techs she works with just bought a nail sticker printer. I first had the idea to put my fiancé’s face on my ring finger, but I decided to honor my girls instead, since that seemed more fitting for a bachelorette trip.”
After Wu narrowed down the most embarrassing and silly pictures she could find on her phone of her sister Claudia; cousins Felicia, Bri and Audrey; and friends Jordan, Annie, Rachel, Julissa, Jane and Jennie, she had Wagner print them out and glue them onto her silver, sparkly long nails.
“I think this is the best set I’ve ever gotten,” Wu said in her TikTok post. “Are other brides as unhinged as me? Please let me know.”
Wu tells PEOPLE that her nail appointment took around three hours.
“We were in the studio until 9 p.m.!” she says.
Three days later, she met up with her 10 girlfriends and showed them all the set.
“Everyone loved the nails and thought they were super funny,” Wu says.
She posted a compilation video of their reactions on TikTok, writing in the caption, “the best bridal decision i’ve made to date 🙂↕️.”
Her friends were in disbelief, with many laughing and smiling in shock while they observed the set close up.

Even people outside of Wu’s bachelorette party trip group stopped to ask her about her funky nail stickers.
“I talk with my hands a lot, so I have had, and still have, a lot of people ask me about them,” Wu tells PEOPLE. “I even went to my wedding dress fitting with them on, and the shop owner was cracking up. People mostly wonder why I did it, and when I tell them it was for my bachelorette, they think it’s genius. It’s my favorite nail set I’ve ever done, and I don’t think I’ve ever been complimented on my nails more.”
Wu plans to switch up her nail set soon, with her next appointment on April 15.
“In total, the set would be on for exactly two weeks. I wish I could keep them on for longer, but I have to file them off for work reasons,” she says. “All the more reason to do it again for different occasions!”
