NJ school minivan crash leaves four dead, including 4-year-old boy

Four people, including a young child, were killed in a four-car pile-up involving a school minivan on Route 10 in New Jersey on Thursday, according to officials.

Four-year-old Yexsel Reyes Granados died from his injuries on Friday afternoon, a day after a P.G. Chambers School minivan was involved in the crash on the Garden State thoroughfare, NJ.com reported citing the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

Two other minivan riders, Bertha Castaneda, 67, and Maria Figueroa, 58, also died in the crash, according to that report.

A driver in another vehicle, 71-year-old Diane Goetz, was the fourth victim.

Meanwhile, another child remains hospitalized and two other adults were injured and required medical attention, according to NJ.com.

“While we cannot disclose many details on the circumstances of this crash at this time, I can say this is a horrible tragedy for the Morris County community and beyond,” Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll said, according to the outlet.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives, and with those whose lives will undoubtedly be impacted by their loss,” he continued.

A GoFundMe set up for the benefit of the family of Yexsel Granados heartbreakingly remembered the “courageous” four-year-old.

“Yxsel was just 4 years old — a sweet, courageous child whose light shone brightly despite the challenges he faced,” the page stated.

“He brought joy, love, and warmth to everyone around him, and his spirit touched many in our community. His loss is a tragedy beyond words.”

The GoFundMe page claimed that the school minivan was hit by a car traveling over 80 miles per hour.

Officials have not commented on the circumstances of the accident.
