DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) — Not many people have a second act in life. But Rickie Higgins is proof that you can have a second act and excel at it.
Rickie is a retired educator. He had a successful career as a teacher and the universe, if you will, kept pushing him to the canvas.
Like many, Rickie’s journey to the art world started early. He drew on the floor at home as a kid. Later, in high school, a teacher pointed out his talent as a way to get a scholarship and attend college.
He is a self-described “people watcher.” That is reflected in his work. He loves painting faces and hands for example, and he brings an original feel and look to his work.
The Art Loft in Decatur is home to Rickie’s studio. If you have ever walked into a space and thought “this place has a really cool vibe” then you know what his environment is like. You can double that by being in The Art Loft. The Art Loft is a vibrant home to several artists that hopefully you will see featured on Sound Bites down the road.
You can see his work here and also at the Art Loft in Decatur.
The Art Loft is located at 113 2nd Ave NE, Decatur, AL 35601, which is basically across the street from The Princess Theatre by the restaurant Josie’s.
