EXCLUSIVE: Former Slate PR founding partners, Stephen Huvane, Robin Baum, Simon Halls and Andy Gelb have formed a new concern, Apex Public Relations. The full-service public relations and communications agency begins immediately, and follows a partnership dissolution that occurred earlier this morning at Slate. Fully staffed with outposts in Los Angeles and Manhattan, Apex continues the partnership that has existed through several iterations for more than 30 years.
“We are excited to continue this amazing and longstanding partnership as we launch APEX,” the braintrust said in a statement. “We feel like we struck gold when we first joined forces way back when, with all of our individual strengths combining to make an extraordinarily cohesive and successful team. We are very much looking forward to continuing that in this next, exciting venture.”
The partners have also unveiled a new board of managing partners, comprised of company vets Guido Gotz, Lindsay Maguire, Scott Newman, Jennifer Plante, Shawn Purdy, and Megan Senior. The new board will be responsible for the day to day management of Apex and will be key in setting the company’s agenda for future and long term growth. Said the founders: “We are thrilled to be welcoming our newly formed team of managing partners to help us run the new company. As we look to the future we are very fortunate to have some of the best young talent in the Public Relations industry by our side.”

Huvane, Baum and Halls have required new business cards a few times in 31 years. They formed an agency under their own names in 1994, then in 2001 merged it with public relations powerhouse PMK to form PMK/HBH. Huvane, Baum and Halls became managing partners of that entity, and simultaneously formed an alliance with brands and events specialist Andy Gelb at PMK/HBH. In 2010, the partners split off from PMK/HBH to form Slate PR, which just dissolved.
The vast majority of Slate employees join Apex, as do the 500+ partner clients. Those include Jennifer Aniston, Ryan Gosling, Zendaya, Chris Hemsworth, Ryan Murphy, Julianne Moore, Emily Blunt, Lana Del Rey, Brendan Fraser, Amy Pascal, Sam Mendes, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, George Clooney, Anya Taylor Joy, Ridley Scott, Elle and Dakota Fanning, Greg Berlanti, Tom Ford and Dakota Johnson. Apex event and brand clients include the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, Glamour Women of the Year, the Westminster Kennel Club, Wondery, The Tony Awards, Netflix, IMDbPro and MPTF.
