HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Crestwood Medical Center is adding a new surgical robot that could make hospital stays a little shorter.
The new surgical robot is designed to enhance precision, control and visualization, allowing surgeons to do complicated procedures through smaller incisions. This could lead to shorter hospital stays, faster recovery times and reduced risk of complications.
“This marks an exciting step forward in our robotics program and positions Crestwood at the forefront of innovation, being the first in the state of Alabama to utilize this technology,” Justin Serrano, Chief Executive Officer of Crestwood Medical Center said. “It’s an honor to be able to offer this to our patients and further our mission of helping patients get well and live healthier.”
Crestwood’s surgical team has gone through advanced training to make sure the implementation of this new technology into the hospital’s surgical services is as smooth as possible.
The first case expected to utilize the new robot will be on Thursday, April 10.
The robotic surgery line was launched in 2012. More than two dozen physicians at Crestwood use robotic-assisted technology, including general surgery, gynecology, urology, and ENT surgery.
In November 2024, the surgery department celebrated a major milestone with the completion of the 10,000 robotic-assisted surgery.
“Our patients deserve the very best, and that includes access to the latest advancements in surgical care,” Dr. Ray Sheppard, general surgeon at Crestwood Medical Center said. “This technology allows us to be more precise than ever before, which benefits both the surgical team and most importantly, the patient.”
