LITTLEVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — A train has been blocking parts of Osborn Hill Road in Littleville since Friday afternoon.
Several residents are frustrated about it.
“Please, somebody, come move this train. I’m totally frustrated; this has been here since last Friday,” Osborn Hill Road resident Brett Young said.
The call for help has been repeated for almost a week now. Bucky Ray lives on Osborn Hill Road and said he has to take a detour to get to his home.
“It’s an inconvenience; that’s probably the extent of it,” Ray said.
Littleville Police Chief Markus Solomon tells News 19 why the train is stuck and not moving anywhere.
“Where the train belongs to, they received extensive storm damage over the weekend and that train was unable to go where to supposed to be stored and they have no other storage places for it,” Solomon said.
Solomon says the stalled train concerns him, as it could slow down response times for first responders.
“If you had a major medical emergency on the other side of those tracks, it’s going to take us an extra 5 to 10 minutes to get to you and then an extra 5-10 minutes to get you to the nearest hospital,” Solomon said.
The company responsible for the train is Norfolk Southern. Solomon says he spoke with the company on Wednesday.
“They anticipate the train will be in place for about another week, but they did say they was going to have crews come out and break the train apart to clear it off that crossing,” Solomon said.
The chief said Norfolk Southern is working on breaking the train apart so that the crossing would be possible by Wednesday evening.
