Eric Andre is opening up about a moment when trying hallucinogenic mushrooms while visiting Mexico went wrong.
During an April 7 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the 42-year-old talked about doing “a lot of mushrooms,” joking about “seeing the fifth dimension.”
Kimmel asked the comedian if he eats mushrooms in candy form, pill form or in tea. He quickly replied, “All of the above,” and then noted that he’s even had mushrooms from cow poop.
“I went to Oaxaca with this indigenous shaman guy. He was picking the mushrooms right out of the cow turds and I was eating them,” Andre recalled. “And I got three different parasites. I came back from Mexico with so many parasites rummaging through my GI tract. It took me six months to recover.”
“I had a blast!” he quipped. “Before those parasites started laying eggs I was laughing, smiling ear to ear.”

Andre is often transparent about his unusual health woes.
Back in August 2024, the Emmy-nominated comedian opened up to PEOPLE about sustaining several odd injuries throughout six seasons of The Eric Andre Show.
“It’s pretty common,” he said at the time, recalling a season 5 episode where John Cena hurled him through a shelf. “I got through the shelf okay, but we forgot to sandbag the shelf — the frame of the shelf — so the metal frame tipped over and knocked me in the head. I got a concussion and went to the hospital.”
Another time, Andre accidentally thrust his hand through a window while filming a prank in Brooklyn.
“I was trying to hammer the window, but my whole hands went through,” he said. “It sliced me up, and I had to get stitches. I had to go to the hospital for that.”
Andre later teased, “I think people just think I’m nuts.”
