For instance, while Boost Mobile is a good option for people looking to purchase a single line, Metro might be the better fit if you want a carrier with no high-speed data caps.

Price

The entry level, and thereby cheapest plans, for both carriers are as follows:

  • Boost Mobile Unlimited: $25 without hotspot data / $40 with hotspot data
  • Metro Flex Start: $50 for one line

Therefore, strictly speaking, Boost Mobile offers the cheapest entry-level plan out of the two. However, it might be worth it for you to pay a few more dollars for Metro to get unlimited data with no throttling (Boost Mobile throttles your data after 30 MB).

It’s harder to compare the other plans between the two carriers because they offer more personalization options, including number of lines and add-ons like a free Amazon Prime membership, so it’s better for you to do that yourself.

Phone Lines

When it comes to the number of phone lines, there are important differences between Boost Mobile and Metro. Boost Mobile’s plans don’t let you have multiple lines under one plan, but Metro does offer that flexibility. Each of Metro’s plans can be personalized with up to four lines.

Data

Boost Mobile and Metro offer unlimited data with all their plans. The difference is in the speed. Depending on the plan you choose, Boost Mobile will provide slower Internet speeds during congestion after you go through your first 30 or 50 GB.

Metro, on the other hand, doesn’t throttle your speed at all under any plan.

Hotspots

Mobile hotspots are another difference. While all of Metro’s plans come with a hotspot included, Boost Mobile’s entry-level plan is lacking on that front. If you want a hotspot, you’ll have to pay an additional $15.

The amount of data you can use with your hotspot varies with both carriers. It’s important to note that with Boost Mobile, the data you use with the hotspot will be taken from your monthly allotment. (Remember: throttling). Meanwhile, Metro sets limits on hotspot usage, varying from 8 to 25 GB.

International Features and Extras

When it comes to international features, Boost Mobile and Metro offer different perks based on your plan. Boost Mobile, for instance, offers global talk and text and free roaming in Canada and Mexico. Metro, on the other hand, offers unlimited texting in 210+ countries.

Metro also tries to reel customers in with add-ons like free Google One and Amazon Prime memberships.

How to Use an Old Phone as a Music Player

Bottom Line

It depends on what you’re going to use your phone for and what’s important to you. If you’re looking for one plan for your family, then Metro is a good and cost-effective choice. Plus, it’ll give you perks that the entire family can enjoy, such as an Amazon Prime subscription.

However, if you’re just shopping for yourself and don’t really use data on your phone that much, then Boost Mobile will give you a good bang for your buck.
