MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (WHNT) — The Colbert County Emergency Management Agency has confirmed at least 5 people were injured, including a child, after several tornadoes came through the county Saturday.

Houses and mobile homes were torn apart when multiple EF1 tornadoes hit Colbert and Lauderdale Counties over the weekend.

Colbert County Emergency Management Agency director, Jody Hitt, tells News 19 where the tornadoes hit first.

“The National Weather Service has determined that it was two F1’s that came simultaneously up our county, starting west of Tuscumbia, and one in Sheffield,” Hitt said.

Hitt says Pounders Mobile Home Park in Muscle Shoals was hit the hardest, with multiple people injured, including a child.

“We’ve had 5 out of here, the trailer park here in Muscle Shoals, this is pretty much our worst hit, 5 injuries come out of it, one of them being a 7 year old girl, and some of her injuries were back injuries and she is stable,” Hitt said.

The Shoals community is stepping up to do what they can to help their neighbors. I spoke with Haley Lowery, who lives in Colbert County and has put together a donation group to help those in need. Lowery says they need more supplies.

“Extra tarps and help getting the trees off the trailers, off the roads so people can go into their homes and actually, exactly what they need,” Lowery said.

Hitt told News 19 that when disaster strikes the area, everyone lends a hand.

“This is what Alabama is, we are going to take care of each other, neighbors, no matter who you are or where you’re from, you’re a resident of us and we are going to come and help” Hitt said.

Lowery tells News 19, you can drop off donations for Pounders Mobile Home Park, located at 2600 Avalon Avenue in Muscle Shoals.

She said that extra adult clothing, baby clothing, trash bags, water, and food is also needed.
