EXCLUSIVE: Saul Venit, one of BBC Studios’ longest-serving senior execs, is exiting after two decades.

Venit, who is COO Scripted for the BBC’s commercial arm, will depart next week, we are told. He will not be directly replaced as of yet and some of his responsibilities will pass to finance director Ian McBain. Deadline understands Venit will take a bit of time out.

Venit joined the BBC around 25 years ago and has spent most of his time with BBC Studios (previously BBC Worldwide). He rose to Director of Business and Legal Affairs before spending nearly a decade as Chief Operating Officer of BBC Studios-owned Lookout Point. During that time, the indie rose to become one of the UK’s most prolific scripted producers, making the likes of Gentleman Jack, Last Tango in Halifax and Les Misérables.

Venit moved from Lookout Point back to the main BBC Studios hub in 2023 after a restructure implemented by Scripted MD Mark Linsey when he moved to L.A.

In a note to staff, Linsey said: “During his time with us Saul has been instrumental in consolidating and growing our portfolio of scripted labels and he’s leaving us in very good position with a strong team to build on the incredibly successful multi-award-winning group of producers. We wish him all the very best with his future endeavors.”
