The Chicago White Sox are likely going to trade star outfielder Luis Robert Jr. this season as the team continues to rebuild the big league roster. Robert is coming off a down year last season, but posted an OPS near .900 with nearly 40 home runs in 2023.
With Robert on the trade market, teams like the Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, and Detroit Tigers have been connected to the star. All three of these teams need a right-handed hitting outfielder with the star potential that Robert has.
FanSided’s Jacob Mountz recently predictedRobert would land with the Toronto Blue Jays in a shocking trade rather than the Phillies, Reds, or Tigers.
“In an attempt to make a postseason push, Blue Jays’ GM Ross Atkins placed his bets on Anthony Santander and Max Scherzer, neither of whom should significantly move the needle given the Blue Jays’ many weaknesses,” Mountz wrote. “By the trade deadline, it will more than likely be clear that Toronto is not a postseason-bound team.
“At that point, there will be two options: sell off or make improvements in hopes of turning the tide. Of these two options, we can expect Atkins to choose the latter. But who has the potential to change the Jays’ dismal fortunes? Look no further than Luis Robert Jr.”
If Toronto is looking to make a push with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette on the roster, adding Robert would make a lot of sense. It would likely be a costly trade for Toronto, but the star outfielder has multiple more years of team control on his contract and would be an impact bat at the top of the lineup.
