Yankees star Brett Gardner and his wife, Jessica Gardner, announced the death of their 14-year-old son, Miller Gardner, after he got sick on vacation.

The couple revealed the teenager “passed away peacefully in his sleep” on Friday morning via a statement shared to the New York Yankee’s X account on Sunday.

“He was 14 years old and has left us far too soon after falling ill along with several other family members while on vacation,” they wrote. “We have so many questions and so few answers at this point.”

“Miller was a beloved son and brother and we cannot yet comprehend our life without his infectious smile,” Brett, 41, and Jessica added.

“He loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his family and his friends. He lived life to the fullest every single day.”

The duo expressed gratitude for those who offered them “support and encouragement during this difficult time.”

They also asked the public for privacy as they mourned.

The Yankees released a separate statement on X, saying their hearts are heavy and the team “is  filled with grief.”

“Words feel insignificant and insufficient in trying to describe such an unimaginable loss,” they wrote.

“It wasn’t just Brett who literally grew up in this organization for more than 17 years — so did his wife, Jessica, and their two boys, Hunter and Miller.”

Brett played with the Yankees for 14 seasons from 2028 to 2021 and helped them secure them win the World Series in 2009.

In 2021, the retired athlete stepped away from baseball.
