Katherine Ryan has revealed that she has been diagnosed with skin cancer for the second time.

The Canadian comedian and TV personality shared the news on her podcast and social media, explaining that she recently had a cancerous mole removed from her arm.

She also mentioned that she is scheduled for a follow-up procedure next week to remove any remaining cancerous tissue.

According to BBC News, Ryan, known for her role in the Netflix series The Duchess, as well as a few stand-up comedy specials, was first diagnosed with skin cancer in 2004, when a “golf ball-sized lump” was removed from her thigh. This time, she shared that a doctor initially dismissed her concerns, but further tests confirmed that her mole was “early melanoma.”

Ryan explained:

“If you know about melanoma, you’ll know it is a deadly form of skin cancer. It does spread quickly, and I just felt like this mole wasn’t right.”

She encouraged others with concerns to get tested, emphasizing:

“You have to make space in your day for these appointments. It just feels crazy to me, what could have happened, if I hadn’t been my own advocate – and I will continue to be my own advocate.”

Ryan also expressed gratitude toward Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Teddi Mellencamp for being open about her own melanoma journey, stating:

“God bless that woman for being so transparent about her journey.”

Originally from Canada, Ryan has become a prominent figure in the UK comedy scene, where she has lived since 2008. In addition to her Netflix show, she frequently appears on TV panel shows such as 8 Out of 10 Cats, and was in Never Mind the Buzzcocks, A League of Their Own, and Have I Got News For You.
