To provide a resource for those displaced by the Los Angeles fires, this edition of “What You Get” focuses on rentals rather than properties for sale.

North Hollywood | $4,875

A 1937 storybook cottage

This two-bedroom, two-bathroom house, being rented fully furnished, is a few blocks from the heart of the NoHo Arts District, and within walking distance of an independent movie theater, a diner, and a horror movie-themed coffee shop. Also a few blocks away are the North Hollywood Recreation Center, with sports fields, a pool, and a gym, and a branch of the Los Angeles Public Library.

The house is also a 10-minute walk from a Metro station, putting it within a 45-minute train commute to downtown Los Angeles. By car, Burbank Airport is a 15-minute drive.

Size: 1,020 square feet

Indoors: A red brick path leads from the sidewalk to a front porch trained with flowering vines. Inside is the living room, where there’s tiled fireplace with a wooden mantel and a window overlooking the front yard.

Through a wide passage is the dining room, which, like the living room and bedrooms, has hardwood floors. Off one side of the dining room is the kitchen, with butcher block countertops and a blue tile backsplash behind a stainless steel gas range. A door on one side of the kitchen opens to a back patio, and around the corner is a laundry room.

The en suite primary bedroom is at the back of the house, on the other side of the dining room, where walls are finished with white wood paneling and a glass door opens to the backyard. Sliding barn doors open to a closet and the bathroom has a stall shower.

The other bedroom, off the living room, has green walls and built-ins decorated with an undersea motif. Next door is an updated bathroom with a combined shower and deep tub, plus a new wood vanity.

Outdoor space and amenities: A paved patio is directly behind the house, and on the other side of a wood trellis is a grassy backyard where mature trees offer shade. There are raised planters in the side yard and two parking spots in the driveway.

Utilities: Trash pickup is included, while gas, water, electricity, and cable/internet are not.

West Hollywood | $4,775

A unit in a 1973 condominium building

This two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit is offered with or without furniture. It’s two blocks from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and a five-minute walk from the shops and restaurants of Robertson Boulevard, including The Ivy, a popular lunch spot. The Beverly Center shopping mall is 10 minutes away on foot, and a stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard that includes the Troubadour, a nightclub and music venue established in the 1950s. Dan Tana’s, a red-sauce Italian restaurant that opened in 1964, is a 20-minute walk.

The center of Beverly Hills is less than 10 minutes away by car, and Century City is a 15-minute drive. LAX is half an hour away.

Size: 920 square feet

Indoors: This unit’s door opens to the foyer, where wide-plank floors continue into the combined living and dining room. A gas fireplace with a floor-to-ceiling white stone surround anchors the sitting area, and glass doors to the balcony are covered with white wood shutters.

There’s space for a dining table between the sitting area and the kitchen, which has a breakfast bar, stainless steel appliances and a combined washer and dryer.

The primary suite is at the far end of a hallway from the foyer. It fits a king-size bed and has a large walk-in closet. The attached bathroom has Carrara marble countertops and a blue glass-tiled combined tub and shower. The bathroom floors are terrazzo tile.

The second bedroom, also off the main hallway, has a street-facing window, and a bathroom next door has banana leaf-print wallpaper and a combined tub and shower.

Outdoor space and amenities: In addition to its private balcony, that can fit a table and chairs, the renters may access to building amenities that include an in-ground swimming pool, a gym and a barbecue area. The unit is allotted two parking spots in a secure garage.

Utilities: Trash, water and gas are included, while electricity and cable/internet are not.

Downtown Los Angeles | $4,500

A floor-through unit in a 1914 condominium building

This is a floor-through loft-style unit, with distinct areas for sitting, working and sleeping, and one full bathroom. The building, a designated Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument, is in the Fashion District, within walking distance of Art Deco-style theaters, a Whole Foods, and restaurants including Clifton’s Republic and Cole’s French Dip, a downtown staple.

The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA is a mile away, as is Little Tokyo. Los Angeles City Hall is 15 minutes away on foot, and the L.A. Live complex is a five-minute drive.

Size: 1,820 square feet

Indoors: The elevator opens to a small private lobby, and a set of glass doors from there opens to the central kitchen. The kitchen appliances are by Miele and include a built-in electric cooktop, dishwasher, and oven.

On one side of the kitchen is an open space, now a home office, with large windows overlooking the city. Around the corner is a sitting area, which has polished concrete floors, built-in bookshelves and windows facing neighboring buildings.

On the other side of the kitchen is an open space now used as a combined work and gym area, and at the far end of the unit is a sleeping area set up in front of a window. Exposed ductwork runs across the ceiling, and a door opens from here to the bathroom, which has a white porcelain pedestal sink and a combined tub and shower. There are built-in cabinets next to the bathroom, and a closet nook has more built-ins and hanging racks.

Outdoor space and amenities: Mailboxes are in the lobby, which has penny-tile floors, and several parking lots in the area offer spaces for rent on a monthly basis.

Taxes: Trash, water, and gas are included, while electricity and cable/internet are not.
