Jimmy Kimmel roasted Elon Musk amid Tesla’s recent downtrend in sales, noting the DOGE head “may have to fire himself” in addition to the scores of government employees he’s already fired through the Department of Government Efficiency.

The late night host pointed out on Live that Musk has been having “one heck of a week” with Tesla’s shares dropping 15% — the biggest drop it’s suffered in five years — in addition to plunging sales. “Elon lost almost $30 billion in stock value yesterday. He may have to fire himself, things are going so poorly,” Kimmel joked.

He then pointed out that now “is not a good time to own a Tesla vehicle” as “angry Americans” are vandalizing vehicles and charging stations. “So much so, President Trump took it upon himself to announce he will be buying a Tesla even though he’s not allowed to drive a car,” Kimmel said, before sarcastically adding, “That should turn things around.”

“I remember the time he saved Party City by buying a kazoo. It was heroic,” he quipped.

Kimmel was quick to point out that President Trump seems to have changed his tune, though he used to be a massive critic of electric cars. He shared a video of Trump railing against electric cars on the campaign trail, complaining that they “can’t go far, cost too much” and are made with batteries “produced in China with materials only available in China.”

“He flip-flops from zero to 60 in under five seconds,” Kimmel joked. “It’s really a thing of beauty, what a twist.” He then pointed out that Trump will most likely not pay for the Tesla, considering he “did a big commercial for them today absolutely free.”

Kimmel is referring to the temporary Tesla showroom, as some reports put it, that Musk and Trump put on outside of the White House March 11.

The President had a list of talking points that included financing options and price points, prompting Kimmel to joke, “He’s finally turned into the used car salesman we all knew he was all along.”

But the late night host slammed the entire ordeal, reminding the Live audience that Musk is still the richest person in the world.

“The idea that we all now have to dig deep to help the richest man in the world who’s down to his last $324 billion sell cars is preposterous,” he said.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
