An abandoned parking garage, skin-colored boots, and belted arms set the scene for grounds’ Fall/Winter 2025 runway show. The collection marked a new step in the footwear brand’s creative expansion into ready to wear. Staying true to its avant-garde nature, the clothing expressed disgruntled and subversive shapes.
The collection was styled by none other than Betsy Johnson. Her nonchalant but provocative aesthetic could be felt in each look’s undoneness. Disheveled hair was tucked into necklines and under brand new racing sunglasses while boxy sleeves hung well past the fingertips. Belts were stacked up and down the models’ torsos restraining their wrists at the hip, evoking a feeling of uncomfortable chaos.
The standout pieces remained the footwear. Envisioned from the ground up, each style blended futurism with technical design. Exaggerated curved platforms bounced the models down the runway using the brand’s signature “Leap Gravity” concept. Sneakers included fuzzy purple trims, red dip dyes, and speckled prints. Some pairs even featured a double-decker sole that oozed laces from between the two. Laces were also subverted as jacket belts, bag straps, earrings, and handkerchiefs, while an insole was used as a floating bandeau.
