Jason Day and Malbon Golf shocked the world last year at the Masters when he wore the vest. You know the one I’m talking about.
It was so bold that Augusta National asked Day to take it off. Granted, it did break the PGA Tour’s logo rules. That vest took the golf world by storm, and people still talk about it a year later.
Fast forward to this year, it seems Augusta National wants to avoid another vest ordeal.
“We have to get clearance on the scripting this year,” Day said while chatting with Beyond the Podcast.
NEW: Jason Day shares that Malbon has some bold outfits planned for Augusta again this year, but he’s not sure if they will pass and get clearance from the Masters.Garrett’s chat w/Jason for @GolfMagic & the pod. Watch: https://t.co/6TGwDUzXWP#golf pic.twitter.com/i69ZvQH8rL

“To Malbon’s credit, they’ve got some bold stuff, but I’m not sure if it’ll pass,” he continued. “So we’ll see how it goes. Hopefully, they’ll say yes; if not, we will be going back to the drawing board and try to come up with something different.”
Hopefully for the golf fashionistas, Day gets to wear these bold outfits Malbon has planned for him. It is Augusta, so it makes sense that they would be strict about what players wear.
However, if it does not infringe on play, should the players not have stylistic freedom?
Day and Malbon have been at the forefront of discussions since they partnered last January.
Since then, people have wanted to see what he wears each week, regardless of whether they like it.
“It’s good and bad when you’re trying to shake the tree,” Day explained. “You’re trying to come through with a different style and way to wear some gear. Malbon knows how to market very well, and they have a lot of unique styles, which is fantastic. I think some of the styles you either love or hate, and that’s okay.”
Day has already gotten attention for his outfits in 2025.
At the Genesis Invitational, he wore a cardigan with a bold pattern on it. At the Farmer’s Open, Day had a mountain range on a crewneck that caught a lot of people’s attention. It may be one of the best outfits Malbon has ever put on him.
However, there was one tournament that stirred the pot.
On the final day of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Day came out in an all-grey sweatsuit.
“I felt like I stopped the whole range walking down there in sweats,” Day said.
Fans either loved or hated it, which has been the common theme with his outfits.
Malbon knows how to get people’s attention and Day is just cool enough to pull off these looks.
For Augusta National, though, there is an expectation. Hopefully they will allow Malbon and Day to have some creative freedom and not dull down the outfits too much, but it is no surprise that they want to approve their scripting after what went down with the vest.
