EXCLUSIVE: Fledgling Canadian distribution label New Mountain Films has acquired theatrical rights to Swiss-American director Jasmin Gordon’s well-reviewed TIFF 2024 Discovery title The Courageous.
The drama stars Ophélia Kolb (Panda) as the rebellious single mother of three young children determined to overcome the restrictions of their straitened circumstances to give them a life of fun and love.
Billed as a timely gripping portrait of resilience, the film explores the complexities of motherhood, societal expectations, and personal sacrifice.
New Mountain Films will release the film on April 11 in Montreal and Québec City, followed by an April 18 push in Toronto.

It will mark the first theatrical release for the distributor, which announced its launch during TIFF last year.
“Jasmin Gordon’s directorial vision is both bold and deeply human,” said New Mountain Films founder Khaled Sabbour, founder of New Mountain Films
“This is exactly the kind of film we want to champion—one that sparks conversation, resonates emotionally, and leaves a lasting impact.”
New Mountain Films acquired the title from its producers Brigitte Hofer and Cornelia Seitle at Zurich-based Maximage.
Sabbour has spearheaded the launch of the distributor with the backing of private and institutional backers. He is joined in the venture by Frank Mendicino, former Head of Marketing at Alliance Atlantis and Entertainment One, who is overseeing marketing.
