Shocking AL Club Linked To $480 Million Vladimir Guerrero Jr. In Free Agency

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is headed for free agency at the end of the 2025 season. While the Blue Jays have attempted to extend his contract, they’ve failed to do so until this point.

When the slugger lands in free agency, he’s going to have quite a long list of suitors in pursuit. There may even be some surprises on the list of landing spots.

Jim Bowden of The Athletic recently linked the Los Angeles Angels to Guerrero as a potential suitor next offseason. Forbes writer Daniel Epstein predicts Guerrero will sign for $480 million in free agency.

“Remember the trade with the Blue Jays for Vernon Wells (in which they inherited $86 million of his seven-year, $126 million deal)? Or signing Albert Pujols to a 10-year, $254 million contract? Or the $125 million pact with Josh Hamilton,” Bowden wrote. “Or, more recently, the seven-year, $245 million agreement with Anthony Rendon? Or even Mike Trout’s 12-year, $426.5 million deal? Ouch.

“Do the Angels have the gumption to try again and attempt to land a superstar like Guerrero? They’ve rolled the dice in the past and lost big, but perhaps a deal with the son of former Halos star, Hall of Famer Vlad Sr., would break the cycle?”

The Angels showed a willingness to pay big money to build the roster this season. They have Mike Trout returning from injury as well as a few solid young stars to build around.

Los Angeles has showed a willingness in the past to pay big money for some top talent. But it’s tough to imagine it’ll be able to outbid the Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and other big market teams.
