Rose McGowan memorialized fellow “Scream” alum Hayden Panettiere following her death in a Friday Instagram post, calling for kids to stay out of show business.
The #MeToo activist has long advocated for young women in Hollywood. McGowan was a Harvey Weinstein victim at 23 and continues to advocate for women’s rights in the entertainment industry.
“Rest in Power Hayden Paniettiere [sic],” McGowan, 52, wrote on top of an Instagram reel of the ocean Friday.
“Don’t put kids in show business,” she continued. “None of this is normal. May her spirit be free of those who orchestrated.”
Panettiere died last weekend at the age of 36. On Monday, the coroner’s office shared that Panettiere’s cause and manner of death “remain pending [amid] further investigation and the completion of additional studies.” However, per dispatch calls reviewed by People and TMZ, the event was called in by an Emergency Medical Service worker reporting an apparent overdose.
The “Bring It On: All or Nothing” star opened up about her longstanding struggles with opiates and other drug use in her memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning,” which came out this spring.
The “Nashville” actress began her career as a child star. She got her start on the daytime soap opera “Guiding Light,” as well as in Pixar’s “A Bug’s Life” and Disney’s “Remember the Titans.”
She broke through as a leading actress in the NBC thriller series “Heroes” and later the “Bring It On” film series. She joined the “Scream” movie franchise in the 2011 film “Scream 4.”
Other former co-stars have since paid tribute to the late actress. Viola Davis, her “Custody” co-star, shared that the actress was always “an old, wise soul with such a deep heart” and wished that the world had more time with her talent.
“Nashville” co-star Connie Britton shared several pictures from their time working together, writing, “This was Hayden. Bursting with brilliance, shining so bright. I have no words for this sad song. Just heartbreak.”
Emma Roberts, who also starred alongside Panetierre in “Scream 4,” paid tribute to the actress in an Instagram post, saying she was “so loved” and will be forever missed.
The actress’ birthday was Friday, prompting her ex-fiancé Wladimir Klitschko to issue a tribute on what would’ve been her 37th name day.
“Instead of celebrating the way we had planned, today we celebrate her life, her spirit and the love she brought into this world,” Klitschko wrote in his Friday tribute on X. “I want to thank all of Hayden’s fans, friends and everyone who has reached out for the incredible outpouring of love and support. At a time filled with so much sadness, your kindness has reminded me that there is still so much good in humanity.”
