Charli XCX kept the sheer dress trend alive at the 2025 Brit Awards.

While sheer dresses have defined red carpet style for much of the 2020s, celebs seem to be moving away from the translucent trend in favor of more structural, full-coverage looks in 2025. Perhaps Charli XCX didn’t get that memo—or, more likely than not, purposefully ignored it.

On March 1, the 32-year-old singer brought Brat energy to the red carpet in a sheer black Dilara Findikoglu dress with a matching veil. The fall-winter 2025 look countered its conservative mock turtle neckline with a completely sheer skirt, exposing the boning of an equally translucent corset—and the singer’s matching thong underwear—underneath.

She paired the sultry look with a dramatic smokey eye, glossy brown lips, and deep red manicure, giving her Brat aesthetic a bit of a gothic makeover.

Now that’s a look you wear to take home five Brit awards, whether British broadcasting network execs like it or not. “I’ve heard that ITV were complaining about my nipples,” the singer began her acceptance speech for artist of the year. “I feel like we’re in the era of free the nipple, though, right?”

On top of AOTY, Charli XCX won songwriter of the year and best dance act, while Brat was dubbed album of the year, and “Guess” was awarded song of the year.

Though Charli XCX has not worn much “brat green” this awards season, she continues to push boundaries and challenge outdated societal standards through fashion. As she told Vogue Singapore in April 2024, the color of her album art, which quickly became the summer’s biggest fashion trend, was a provocative choice.

“I wanted to go with an offensive, off-trend shade of green to trigger the idea of something being wrong,” Charli XCX said at the time. “I’d like for us to question our expectations of pop culture—why are some things considered good and acceptable, and some things deemed bad? I’m interested in the narratives behind that and I want to provoke people. I’m not doing things to be nice.”
