“Luxury is relative.” And just in case you forgot, Moschino put it on a shirt for their Fall/Winter 2025 runway. Too often, runway shows can be bogged down by their own seriousness, but then you turn a corner, and three weeks into the everlasting fashion month trudge, Moschino is there to brighten the day.

Leading up to the show, Moschino posted teasers across social media accounts. One clip featured a model taking out the trash with a bin bag labeled “C’est Trash Chic!” an aesthetic that has ratified Moschino as the purveyor of fun over the years. In another clip, faceless hands used an oversized needle to sew fake basting onto the suit jacket that then opened the runway.

Creative director Adrian Appiolaza has had a clear vision from the start. Where other brands reacted all too commercially after their fantastical creative directors, Moschino, under Appiolaza, has found its footing inside an appealing daydream. Looks are layered and patterns are combined as if digging through every era of silhouette at the thrift.

Among the cast of characters, babydoll dresses were dramatized into life-size paper doll silhouettes. A couture chef carried a Pepperidge Farm-inspired Milano cookie bag, and a suspendered winemaker toted a bottle-bag 2025 Buon Moscvino in hand.

From head to toe, Moschino is filled with hodge-podge accessories like realistic spaghetti clutches, costume pearls, or even just a polaroid of a jeweled broach pinned across the chest. Maybe the actual brooch was lost underneath the couch cushions, but don’t worry that was made into a matching ensemble, complete with a to-scale futon hat too.

In case you found more lint and crumbs than jewels, Moschino offered a selection of trash bag couture from satchels, to gowns, to bustiers. However, Apiolaza reminds us through Alex Consani’s closing look, a t-shirt dress emblazoned with “Save our Sphere”, that while all in good fun we must be mindful of fashion’s waste.

Appiolaza is in the process of crafting the best of both worlds. With Moschino FW25, you can become lost in the clouds while your lug sole boots remain planted on the ground.
