The bobsession continues. We’re still not over how the cropped cut accentuates features and adds extra attitude to everyday outfits. The latest rendition to catch our eye—the “cup bob”—might just be the coolest way to wear short hair yet, though. And it offers up total hair architecture with a shape that literally holds its own.
What is the cup bob?
Cut almost one-length around the chin, the name of this bob haircut references the way the cut cups the contours of the face (the chin and jaw), to create a cute rounded shape, like a tea cup.
How to get the cup bob?
As for what to ask your hair stylist, “ask for a blunt-cut bob that is ever so slightly longer towards the face,” explains pro London hair stylist, Hollie Rose Clarke. “This will beautifully frame the face so that, even when you’re having a lazy hair day, the cut will do all the heavy lifting.”

Why choose the cup bob?
As with a lot of the current haircuts leading trends, you won’t be surprised to hear that the cut is heavy on ’90s energy. It brings a little bit of cutesy nostalgia with it while simultaneously managing to feel cool, modern, and polished. More specifically, “bobs can visually lift cheekbones, elongate the neck and build a defined structure around the face that can be tailored to suit all face shapes and hair thicknesses,” says Hollie. This one, with its contoured shape, takes the benefits to the next level.
How to wear the cup bob?
While the cut itself takes care of most of the look, you’ll need to team it with some tactical styling to make the most of that cup shape. “You can achieve this look by taking your chosen hot tool—the Airwrap, straighteners, flatirons, or simply a brush and hairdryer—and curl the ends inwards towards your face,” explains Hollie.
And for longevity, consider introducing a few key styling products. “You want something that will give your hair hold and memory to help maintain the ’90s tuck all day long,” says Hollie. “My go-to would be the Flex Hairspray by Living Proof. This can be used both before your choice of hot tool and after to set, plus the Flex Hairspray has built-in heat protection.”
