The New York Yankees have reportedly been hot on the trail to acquire third baseman Nolan Arenado from the St. Louis Cardinals.
While it’s unclear whether Arenado would waive his no-trade clause for a deal to New York at this moment in time, the previous reports indicated he wouldn’t be willing to do so.
Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller doesn’t expect the Yankees to give up on Arenado. Miller recently predicted the Yankees would land Arenado before the 2025 MLB trade deadline.
“Arenado Ends Season With: New York Yankees,” Miller wrote. “They were reportedly one of the teams Arenado was willing to waive his no-trade clause for, and there’s a decent chance they’ll be desperate enough to take on the rest of his contract after a few months of trying to platoon Oswaldo Cabrera, DJ LeMahieu, and Oswald Peraza at the hot corner.”
Arenado would be the perfect addition to finish the Yankees’ roster revamp.
The issue, as stated above, is whether Arenado would waive his no-trade clause or not.
But Arenado could change his mind if the Cardinals struggle as much as many experts project them to. There’s a chance they finish the season around the same level as the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates, if not worse. Pair this with the Cardinals’ obvious desire to get rid of Arenado, and the $260 million star could waive his no-trade clause for a deal to the Yankees.
Arenado would join former teammate Paul Goldschmidt in the Bronx. He would fit very well in the Yankees’ infield as New York looks to return to the World Series.
