Chef Mafruha Ahmed of Young Space introduces Extended Lunch, her debut cookbook that reimagines lunch as a creative, nourishing experience. Originally a 2024 newsletter sharing recipes with friends and the creative community, the book now features 60 accessible recipes split into lunch, dinner and dessert sections.
Drawing on her Bangladeshi heritage, culinary school training and extensive professional experience, Mafruha encourages home cooks to trust their instincts, adapt dishes to taste and celebrate seasonal ingredients. Standout recipes like grilled leek mimosa and marinated courgettes with butterbean stew exemplify her bold, ingredient-driven approach.
Accompanied by vibrant medium-format photographs by Abena Appiah and intricate illustrations by Sophie Glover, Extended Lunch also includes the E.L Zine – a raw, unedited look at the imperfect side of home cooking. This zine captures stories and images from early recipe testers, reminding us that great food is as much about experimentation as precision.
Officially launching in May, Extended Lunch invites you to slow down, enjoy the cooking process and create meals that bring people together. The book is available for pre-order now via Worms’ webstore.
