Kim Basinger recently gave a rare interview, opening up about her relationship with her ex-husband Alec Baldwin and his current wife, Hilaria.
“Alec and I have a great relationship. I have great respect for where he is today and his family,” said Basinger, 71, in an interview with Variety posted online on Thursday, February 27. Her nine-year marriage to Baldwin, 66, ended in 2002, and the two share a daughter, Ireland, now 29.
While Basinger says she and her former spouse don’t see each other very much, they remain on good terms and sometimes talk. “He’ll pick up the phone and call me, and we have a very genuinely cordial and, I think, loving relationship in a lot of ways, just because we share a daughter,” she said, adding, “And I don’t wish him anything but everything good.”
Those good feelings even extend to Baldwin’s current wife, Hilaria, 41. “He’s been through a lot lately,” Basinger noted of her The Getaway co-star. But, she added, Hilaria “seems to have a great handle on that. So more power to her.”
Alec and yoga instructor Hilaria, who married in 2012, share seven children— Carmen, 11, Rafael, 9, Leonardo, 8, Romeo, 6, Eduardo, 4, María (born via surrogate and also 4), and Ilaria, 2. Their family is now the focus of a new TLC reality series, The Baldwins.
“We’re inviting you into our home to experience the ups and downs, the good, the bad, the wild, and the crazy,” Alec announced on Instagram last June.
In April 2022, Basinger reflected on her and Alec’s “heavy-duty, very out loud when you’re in the public, divorce” during an appearance with Ireland on Red Table Talk, People reported at the time.
Basinger admitted that she and Alec didn’t always see “eye-to-eye” and struggled with co-parenting their daughter.
“Alec’s a funny one,” Basinger told host Jada Pinkett Smith. “We’re all fine and we all get along, whatever. But he’s been — but he’s a challenge.”
