Atlanta Drive’s owner, Arthur Blank, appears confident about the future of TGL.
Justin Thomas and the team clinched a playoff spot over Boston Commons, 6-3, as they joined the Los Angeles Golf Club.
During the match Monday night, Blank spoke with ESPN’s Marty Smith, and his comments on the future should excite those who enjoy the simulator golf product.
Smith asked him about the potential for TGL, and Blank did not hold back his thoughts.
“It’s really unlimited,” Blank said.
“I know that’s a really big word. The league will continue to expand. There will be other teams added to it over time. There will probably be other formats. Potentially, there will be gals involved, which will be great for the game as female golfers are playing more and more on-course and off-course. To me, it’s really, really unlimited.”
The first season of TGL has seen growth. As with any startup, there will be hiccups along the way, but as the matches continue, it seems the league has begun to hit its stride.
At the beginning of the season, a few matches lacked excitement. However, when the league changed the Hammer rule mid-season, it rejuvenated the product. Fans became more interested, and the matches became much closer.
TGL provides entertainment on Monday and Tuesday while fans wait for the PGA Tour tournament to begin on Thursday. It is also great to watch on television, and the fans at the venue appear to be having a blast.

Blank’s hint at expansion fuels the already growing fire surrounding that discussion. There are currently six teams and 24 players in the league.
Expanding to eight TGL teams may be the next logical choice, but Blank’s comment on adding the LPGA to the mix made me far more excited.
Any time the men and women can come together to compete, it will get a thumbs up from almost everyone.
Adding Nelly Korda, Rose Zhang, Charley Hull, and many others would make for must-watch television.
They all have personalities and are just as competitive as the guys. It would be incredible to see them compete with the guys or even against them. Growing the game should include the ladies, which means TGL should get on board, too.
Blank is right that TGL has unlimited potential. If the end of this first year is deemed a success, movement on Season 2 could begin swiftly. Who knows when or what it will look like, but the future possibilities seem grand.
