“I heard you missed me,” the first lady said Thursday at the White House, her first public appearance in weeks. “Here I am.”
The first lady was in the Rose Garden to announce a $2 million donation by IndyCar and Fox Corp. to fund scholarships at Indiana University and Purdue University, as part of her Fostering the Future campaign to help children in foster care go to college.
“Tomorrow’s leaders are sitting in classrooms today, including those growing up in foster care,” she said. “Their capability is no less remarkable.”
This weekend, the Freedom 250 Grand Prix street race will send cars speeding down streets around the National Mall in Washington. The competition is sponsored by IndyCar and will air on Fox.
At the White House on Thursday, a racecar featuring branding for Fostering the Future and Be Best, another initiative of the first lady, was on display.
Before and after the event began, soft jazz struggled to drown out the nearby White House construction.
