As we come to the end of another long, and particularly contentious awards season, it’s time to talk about the Oscars. The 2025 ceremony has made one or two changes from previous years, but you can still expect the telecast to hit all the familiar beats. There will be an opening monologue, incredible music performances, and likely at least one or two tear-jerker speeches. As for any other surprises, like, say, a presenter announcing the wrong best picture winner or a slap heard round the world, we wouldn’t dare to predict.
So, without further ado, here is everything we know about the 97th annual Academy Awards.
How do you watch the 2025 Oscars and when does it air?
This year, the Oscars will begin at 7p.m. ET on Sunday, March 2, 2025. And, luckily, there are a myriad of ways to watch the show live.
Cable and satellite subscribers can watch the Oscars the old-fashioned way, by tuning in to ABC. You can also stream it on Hulu Live TV, YouTubeTV, AT&T TV, and FuboTV, to name a few, many of which offer free trials.
Who is hosting the Oscars?
The Oscars went with a ringer for the 97th ceremony. It will be hosted by awards show veteran Conan O’Brien, whose hosting credits include the Emmys in 2002 and 2006, the MTV Movie Awards, and the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. “I wish I had been at the first Oscars,” O’Brien joked in a promo video for the event. “Because it was such a small affair, I think the whole thing took like 28 minutes. It was so innocent then, the Oscars.”
Who will be the Oscars 2025 performers?
Every year, the Oscars includes performances of the best original song nominees. This year’s ceremony will not do that, per Variety. But don’t worry! There will still be musical numbers. Notably, Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are slated to perform songs from the musical, and other performers include Doja Cat, Queen Latifah, Raye, and Lisa from BLACKPINK, according to Billboard.
Who are the big nominees?
As usual, the list of Oscars 2025 nominees is long, but there are some highlights to pay special attention to. The best actress nominees are Erivo, Karla Sofía Gascón, Mikey Madison, Demi Moore, and Fernanda Torres. Contenders for best actor are Adrien Brody, Timothée Chalamet, Colman Domingo, Ralph Fiennes, and Sebastian Stan. Best picture will be a battle between Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, I’m Still Here, Nickel Boys, The Substance, and Wicked.
