Chevrolet has unveiled its Blazer EV.R NASCAR prototype in line with the iconic DAYTONA 500, highlighting the automaker’s commitment to pioneering new technologies for both racing and consumer vehicles.

Boasting over 1,300 hp, the Blazer EV.R is powered by three advanced six-phase electric motors capable of instantaneously revving up to 15,000 rpm, supported by a 78-kWh liquid-cooled battery pack. Built upon NASCAR’s Next Gen chassis, it integrates an innovative programmable all-wheel-drive system paired with specialized Goodyear Racing Eagle tires, engineered specifically for high-performance electric propulsion.

“Motorsports is a test bed for innovation, a training ground allowing Chevrolet to try out new technologies against top-tier competition,” explained Eric Warren, Executive Director of Global Motorsports Competition at General Motors. He emphasized that while Chevrolet will continue racing its proven V8-powered vehicles, the EV.R project serves as a platform for exploring power, durability and efficiency improvements, directly benefiting future production models.

The Blazer EV.R showcases design elements inspired by the production Blazer EV SS, reflecting lower, wider proportions optimized for enhanced aerodynamic efficiency. Phil Zak, Chevrolet’s Executive Director of Global Design, described the project as an exciting opportunity to integrate crossover utility styling with race-focused performance.

Extensive testing at Carolina Motorsports Park demonstrated the prototype’s readiness for racing conditions, with Team Chevy driver and reigning NASCAR Xfinity Series Champion Justin Allgaier behind the wheel. Allgaier highlighted adjustments required for electric driving, including rethinking speed management and strategically applying regenerative braking to maximize performance.
