‘Connections’ February 19: Hints and Answers for Puzzle #619

It is not easy maintaining a Connections winning streak, so if you are in need of a little assistance, you’ve come to the right place.

The brainteaser, which was launched by The New York Times in 2023, tests player’s vocabulary by challenging them to finding common themes among a group of words. Wyna Liu, puzzle editor at the NYT who comes up with the Connections games, wrote in a piece for the newspaper that she “was excited at the chance to try something different” when tasked with creating the puzzles.

“Much of my work as a crossword editor consists of formatting ideas and definitions into the peculiar and specific syntax of our house style, and this new game, with its stand-alone words, didn’t allow for the space I was accustomed to in order to express meaning,” she said in 2023.

“On the other hand, stretchy question mark crossword clues are often based on the flexible interpretations of words, and those conventions would certainly come in handy,” Liu added.

Keep scrolling for Newsweek‘s helpful hints. The answers will also be revealed at the bottom of this article.

How To Play ‘Connections’

Each day, Connections players are given a set of 16 words with the goal of grouping them into four groups of four based on a shared thread.

These groups are color-coded by difficulty level: yellow (easiest), followed by green, blue and purple (hardest).

For example, Tuesday’s game linked the words “filling,” “hearty,” “solid” and “square” under the category “Substantial as a meal.” This was a blue category.

Meanwhile, the purple category associated the terms “butty,” “chippy,” “footy,” and “telly” with “Britishisms.”

If you correctly identify a group, the words will flash in their category color and will be removed from the board. If you do not identify a group correctly, however, they will be gray in color and remain on the board.

Luckily, there is no time limit to the game, but users get only four tries before the answers will be revealed.
