Sony Pictures Classics has acquired North American and Latin American rights for Rebecca Zlotowski’s French-language murder mystery movie Vie Privée, starring Jodie Foster as a renowned psychiatrist who investigates the suspicious death of one of her patients.

Foster, who speaks fluent French, is joined in the cast by Auteuil (Farewell, Mr Haffman) and Efira (Other People’s Children), Mathieu Amalric (Serpent’s Path), Vincent Lacoste (Lost Illusions) and Luana Bajrami (Portrait of a Lady On Fire).

The acquisition follows a slew of deals on the film, which is being sold internationally by Goodfellas.

As announced by Deadline over the weekend, it has sold out in Europe with deals to UK (Altitude), Spain (Caramel Films), Germany (Plaion Pictures), Italy (Europictures), Benelux (September Film), Switzerland (Frenetic Films), Portugal (Pris Audiovisuais), Bulgaria (Cinelibri), ex-Yugoslavia (MCF), Hungary (Cinetel Ltf), Romania (Independenta Film), Poland (Best Film), the Baltics and CIS (Pro:vzglyad).

Danish distributor Another World Entertainment has acquired Scandinavian rights, in a multi-territory deal covering Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.  Outside of Europe, it has been acquired for Israel (Lev Cinemas),Turkey (Yeni Bir Films) and Australia and New Zealand (Transmission).

A number of Asia deals are in advanced negotiation.

Ad Vitam pre-acquired French rights for the movie, produced by Frédéric Jouve at Les Films Velvet in co-production with France 3 Cinéma.

Zlotowski’s previous credits include 2023 Venice Golden Lion contender Other People’s Children, An Easy Girl, Planetarium, Grand Central and Dear Prudence.

Foster, who has strong ties with France, has appeared in a handful of French Productions across her career, but Vie Privée marks her first French-language role in two decades after Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s wartime romance A Very Long Engagement in 2005.
