A pet parent told Newsweek that she almost cried when she saw her cat, who “never” plays, change his ways to show the foster feline the ropes.
Libby, known on TikTok as @eatingcheeseiscoolyes, recently welcomed home a cat, Pawson Knox, as a foster until a forever family comes forward. Pawson was brought to the shelter for not getting along with other felines. But with a cat of her own, Libby quickly learned Pawson had been misunderstood.
“Pawson was found crying under a car,” she said. “His brother was hit by a car, and he was completely alone.”
Libby noted that Pawson has “come so far” since then, gaining confidence and learning to trust humans. Part of the reason for this, she believes, is because of her orange cat named Ronald.
In her February 4 TikTok video, Libby explained how she never saw Ronald play, but that day, she discovered him flopping around with a toy as Pawson sat and watched from the bed. The next thing she knew, the two cats started playing together.
“He’s an older cat, so seeing him play with Pawson was just so wonderful,” she said. “…It’s been really cool seeing [Pawson] be so great with other cats!”
Libby believes Pawson realized, thanks to Ronald, that he can be in a loving home. He looks at Ronald and sees his relationship with Libby. Ronald gets petted and loved, giving Pawson the green light that he can, too.
Pawson is available for adoption through West Side Cat Rescue in Buffalo, New York. Libby said there has been some interest in his adoption, but no one has come to meet him yet.
The precious TikTok video amassed over 61,500 views and 16,900 likes as of Thursday.
“Crying he is welcoming your new kitty! He’s trying to get him to play too!” said a viewer.
“Animals aren’t all that different from people – we don’t like everyone we meet, but sometimes we find someone that we just click with,” another viewer wrote.
Others immediately jumped to the comment section and jokingly congratulated her on getting her second cat. One person commented: “Welp they’re bonded so now you got two cats.”
However, Libby replied Pawson wouldn’t become a foster fail. “I know the right home is out there for him! I have fostered over 50 animals and hope to foster many many more with my kitty’s help,” she explained.
