So, it’s shaping up to be a pretty big year for Lainey Wilson, huh? First, there’s the Grammys, where she was nominated for Best Country Album for Whirlwind. And now, she’s just announced she’s engaged to boyfriend Devlin “Duck” Hodges, a former NFL player and current real estate agent. Congrats!
Wilson and Hodges announced the engagement with a joint Instagram post on February 12. In the caption, Wilson wrote, “4x4xU forever,” referencing her single track off of Whirlwind, “4x4xU.” (We love an engagement that doubles as promo content.) From the pictures included in the post, it looks like Hodges popped the question on someone’s front porch—someone they know, we imagine—with a huge brick facade and red brick steps. In one picture, you can see that Hodges set the mood by arranging framed pictures of the couple, red roses, and candles in front of the door.

Wilson wore a red coat, bell-bottom jeans (of course) and a sizable brown cowboy hat for the big day while her boyfriend, excuse me her fiancé, wore a work jacket and Timberland work boots.
Lainey Wilson and Duck (fun fact, he’s also a duck hunter), first began dating in 2021, per People, and went public in 2023 at the American Country Music Awards.
In fact, it seems like Wilson has been looking forward to getting engaged to Hodges for a while now. Her song, “Counting Chickens,” with its lyrics like, “Far as I know, you ain’t bought a diamond / You ain’t sat my Deddy down and asked if it’s alright / I don’t mean to jump the gun on perfect timing / But if you brought up Vegas I’d be on a plane tonight,” feels like a not-so-subtle hint, especially since the song also references a “duck” specifically. Plus, back in August 2024, she joked to Taste of Country Nights, “I guess I’m going to have to propose to his ass, because he ain’t proposed to me.” She added at the time, “I think it needs to be during a season of our life where we really have the time to enjoy it. Right now it would be like, ‘Oh shoot, I’m engaged. OK, onto the next thing.’”
Looks like the season of life was just right this time.
