A 17-year-old and her 18-year-old boyfriend were arrested in Texas on Sunday after a grandmother was found dead.
Why It Matters
The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Tara King and Uriah Urick in Laredo following a statewide manhunt that lasted for several days in multiple jurisdictions. The two teenagers are each facing a capital murder charge for the death of Tammy King, which officials have deemed a homicide.
What To Know
Deputies with the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare concern at a residence in Bacliff on Thursday. The caller told officials they were a close friend of Tammy, who was unable to get in contact with her. Tammy King had reportedly not been heard from for a week.
Officials found a deceased woman inside the home. The sheriff’s office Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit were called to the scene.
Who Was Tammy King?
Tammy King, 61, was the grandmother of 17-year-old suspect Tara King, KTRK-TV, a local ABC affiliate station in Houston, reported. Neighbors told the outlet that Tammy raised Tara, and Tara’s boyfriend Urick lived with them.
The sheriff’s office said Tammy was killed on Wednesday. Investigators found “evidence indicating foul play.”
Tammy was found with at least one gunshot wound, the Galveston County Daily News reported.
Multiple agencies assisted in the investigation, including the Laredo division and Galveston division of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force, the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office and the League City Police Department.
Laredo is located about five and a half hours from Bacliff along the U.S.-Mexico border.
